A Statement from our Chairman on Taiwan’s Election

The Project 2049 Institute wishes to express its congratulations to the people of Taiwan on successfully holding their eighth direct presidential election and to President-elect Lai Ching-te and Vice President-elect Hsiao Bi-khim upon their victory. The election outcome is a clear statement from the people of Taiwan that they wish to protect and secure their democracy, and that they seek a rightful place in the international community. We are confident the U.S.-Taiwan relationship will continue to grow and strengthen during President-elect Lai’s tenure in office, and we wish them the best of luck in their new positions.
