Simone Gao: “China is getting more aggressive in the South China Sea. You argued that what Xi is learning in the South China Sea and from observing American approaches to countering Russia and Iran could prove ominous for Taiwan, Japan, and Taiwan’s other neighbors in Asia.”

Michael Mazza: “So, American actions in the South China Sea are reinforcing conclusions that Xi Jinping may be drawing from American responses to developments in Europe and the Middle East———that the Biden administration is, at times, effectively paralyzed by fears of escalation.”

Simone Gao: “… What will be a practical strategy for America to defend the current global order, given that the axis of disorder exists and America is not in the unipolar world it used to live in?”

Michael Mazza: “It’s a very difficult thing for the United States to do right now. It will take statesmanship of the kind that the United States has arguably not seen in decades…”
